17. What is a "personal toll-free number?"
A personal toll-free number (also referred to as a
"1-800" or "800" number, although other assigned
toll-free numbers are 855, 866, 877, 888 --- 822, 833,
and 844 are also reserved for future use for inbound
toll-free call numbers) is a service where the person
receiving the call pays for the long distance phone
charges for the phone call, rather than the caller.
While inbound toll-free numbers have been very popular
for businesses to keep in touch with their customers for
a long time, recently they have also become very popular
for residential customers as well. It is any easy
way to promote calls into your phone numbers, regardless
if they business or residential lines.

18. Why would I need or want an inbound toll-free
number?
While you do not necessarily "need" an inbound
toll-free number, it can be a good thing, especially
when you have family members, friends, or college
students away from home who need to call you or you want
to have call you without having them to worry about the
cost of making a long distance call. This is
especially useful for older family members who are
on fixed income, or sons and daughters in college, who
need to be in touch with you. Inbound toll-free
calls are much cheaper and easier to place than collect
calls or using calling cards.

that I have to have another phone line?
No. You do not need another phone line to use

23. What does it mean that my inbound toll-free
numbers are "portable?"
An inbound toll-free number is "portable" because you
can switch long distance companies without having to get
different inbound toll-free numbers from the new long
distance company. You can always keep the same
inbound toll-free numbers regardless of the company
providing the long distance service. Your inbound
toll-free numbers are portable from one long distance
company to the next.
